Book one: The return of Merlin
Genre: Fantasy
Here we are my first finished book in my quest to complete 52 books by the end of the year (but a few days behind schedule I hate to admit,) I choose the book Merlins Return by Deepak Chorda I have never heard of this Author before, but that is fine I am always looking for amazing talent. So I started the book (which is for all interested over 400 pages) with much enthusiasm as a fan of the TV series and yes I realized that the book would have absolutely nothing to do with the series but I was still pretty excited as I will freely admit I have always been a fan of wizards and fantasy and I have a soft spot for stories like Merlin and Arthurs. The first maybe forty or so pagers were that good I was really excited for the rest of the book as enjoying it the plot was basically Merlin was an old man and had an apprentice named Melchior, and has not seen or at least been in contact with Arthur in five years, and since Camelot was on the verge of disaster Arthur sent a messenger to find Merlin, the cause of the disaster is Arthurs bastard son (which means his parents were not married when he was born) - demon son whose name is Mordred.
After this the story gets a little tricky as it goes to London and where present day Arthur who is a young police officer in England finds a dead body on the road who is Merlin but who isn’t Merlin it is actually Arthurs Uncle (but Arthur doesn’t know that yet) and Merlin goes into the body when needed to communicate. The story gets tricky as the dead body comes alive and escapes from the police the paper actually call it Merlin, but I believe I read that they said someone stole the body from the police. The Book also explores Merlins Apprentice Melchior who sleeps through 12 century’s and turns into a dragon fly, and finds an ally in a raven who warns impending danger from Arthur’s son. Melchior then proceeds to turn into a raven and then back into a human.
All in all the book was slightly there were many characters and can get confusing with so much happening, but still a worthwhile read but only if you have an interest and you have the patients to re-read certain parts and read every single word and you are on it. As a final note I realised half way through this type of book wasn’t my thing, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be yours. Which is why I have given it a rating of 6/10.
Until next time :D
